From 19–21 July 2027, an international group of researchers will meet at Monte Verità in Ascona to discuss the transformative potential of mandatory supply chain regulation amid a changing geopolitical landscape.

The workshop will focus on three interconnected themes:

  • legislative developments between institutionalisation and political pushback;
  • the legitimacy of supply chain regulation across producing and consuming regions; and
  • implementation, intended outcomes and unintended consequences.

The programme will combine paper development sessions, keynote speeches, interdisciplinary roundtables and exchanges on ongoing research. Prof. Tim Bartley from Georgetown University and Dr. Caroline Lichuma from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg will join the workshop as keynote speakers.

Applications are open to researchers working on mandatory supply chain regulation and related questions across disciplines, sectors and geographical contexts. Researchers at all career stages are welcome to apply. Applications from Early Career Researchers and scholars based in the Global South are particularly encouraged.

Thanks to the support of the Centro Stefano Franscini, the University of Basel and the Swiss National Science Foundation, participation is free of charge. It includes four nights of accommodation at Monte Verità from 18–22 July and all meals during the workshop. A limited number of travel bursaries are also available.

The workshop is organised by Janina Grabs, Sophia Carodenuto, Alexandra Bögner, Maria-Therese Gustafsson, Charline Depoorter and Johanna Coenenfrom the University of Basel, the University of Victoria and Stockholm University.

Application deadline: 15 December 2026
