Dr. Marius Christen

Postdoctoral Researcher / Lecturer

Marius studied from 2001 – 2006 Philosophy, History and Sustainability Sciences (Mensch-Gesellschaft-Umwelt) at the University of Basel, Switzerland. During his studies he absolved an Erasmus-year at the Humboldt University and the Technical University of Berlin, Germany. From 2007 – 2012 he worked as a scientific assistant of Prof. Dr. Paul Burger and received a PhD in Philosophy (summa cum laude) with the title ‘Die Idee der Nachhaltigkeit. Eine werttheoretische Fundierung’ – a conceptual work on the foundations of sustainability with a specific focus on sustainability’s value basis.

After his PhD, Marius gained experiences in the field, working at the Agenda 21 of the Canton of Solothurn, Switzerland. Besides his practical labour, he continued teaching at MA and PhD level at the Master’s Degree in Sustainable Development, University of Basel.

Since 2015 Marius took up again his research activities at the Sustainability Research and simultaneously started to consult public administrations in questions of sustainability governance (cf. his private site). His main focus lies in bridging practical experiences and questions with scientific knowhow and methods.
